New Student Guide
Welcome to Hotchkiss! The ITS team is excited to support you through your Academic Journey. Once you have your new laptop, use these FAQs to get answers to questions and get help whenever it’s needed. We are here to assist you with your questions, requests and suggestions.
FIRST TIME USE INSTRUCTIONS
Login to the device with “student” as username and password
Chrome should be in the dock, launch Chrome from that icon
Navigate to login.hotchkiss.org (should be the default starting page)
Enter your Hotchkiss username and password

SOFTWARE
You can install legally licensed software on the computer. Please do not rename the computer or local hard drive.
If you are prompted for a user authentication when installing software or changing settings, leave it as the default – “student” and enter the student username and password which are both “student”
Open Chrome Chrome is the preferred browser you will use. When logging into Chrome the first time, you will be prompted to sync with Chrome, press “Yes' ' when it prompts you to do this. Once complete, all of your preferences will be saved.
Open your Okta Portal. This is where you can gain access to Hotchkiss Calendars, Noodletools, the Hotchkiss Hub-for daily updates, and other necessary info.
Open Gmail. Checking email regularly is a requirement at Hotchkiss. When you log into Okta, click on Google Apps Mail to find your email.
Open Canvas. Online course information and resources will be available here; Syllabi for classes and assignments as well.
Open Google Drive. Click on this app in your applications folder. Once it launches, press sign in with your browser and use your Hotchkiss account to log in. Once logged in, Google Drive will back up your files so nothing will be lost if something happens to your laptop. Once Google Drive is signed in, the icon will appear in the top right menu bar. To confirm it is working properly, press settings>preferences>add folder to back up files and folders.
Open Noodletools. This is a research database you use for research products that has peer-reviewed sources. This is located on your Okta login screen if you want to use it.
Activate Adobe Creative Cloud
Launch Adobe Creative Cloud from the Applications folder in finder.
Click “Sign in Now”. Type in your email address, then hit enter. It will also take you through MFA. Follow SSO prompts to activate the license.

Mosyle Self-Support Portal
This is available in the dock to install school issued software. To access the software, open Mosyle and go to self service.
Microsoft Office Applications
When using Word, PowerPoint or Excel, DO NOT sign into Microsoft Office, Hotchkiss does not have an Office 365 account. Press skip sign-in. Make sure to check for updates often, however, most machines should do it automatically. To check for updates open an office app>click help>click check for updates
Printing
You can access Student printers in the Library. After clicking Print, Papercut will prompt for Hotchkiss username and password. Swipe your student card at the printer to retrieve the print job. The name of any printer on campus you will use on your laptop will be Find_Me_Student
Wireless Network
Wireless access is available in all campus buildings.
Wireless connection occurs automatically while on campus with coverage.
Please do not connect school-owned computers to the Hotchkiss-Public wireless network. This network is meant for personally owned devices.

Additional Useful Information
If there is any damage to your laptop, contact the Service Desk immediately
You can review the Responsible Use Policy as part of the Almanac. This is your computer - please take extra care to avoid loss, theft, and damage. Please do not twist the cables when wrapping it around the charging brick.
Important: You will be held accountable and be charged for loss or damage not covered by Apple’s warranty. Loss or damage to the power cable are also billable items.
If you need repair assistance for your laptop, contact us. We can send it out for repair, and provide you with a temporary loaner. If you need any other assistance with your laptop please contact us.
